The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) presented their 2015 Excellence in Government Affairs Award to Shelley Doak, Executive Director of the Maine Grocers & Food Producers Association, at the FiAE Annual Convention in Savannah, Georgia on November 12, 2015. The award recognizes the efforts of one outstanding executive representing the grocery industry in state advocacy. It acknowledges the recipient’s successful efforts in shaping state policy to protect and enhance the business environment for the food industry. It has been given every year since 1997. Doak is the nineteenth recipient of the Excellence in Government Affairs Award.
Since 2008, Shelley F. Doak has been the Executive Director of the Maine Grocers & Food Producers Association. In that capacity, she oversees board management, government relations, membership development, event management, communications and media management, research, and publication of the Maine Industry Directory & Resource Guide.
Prior to that, she was with the Maine Emergency Management Agency providing assessment, development and implementation of the State Citizen Corps programs, which educate and train volunteers in community emergency preparedness and response.
From 1996 to 2007, she was Director, Division of Animal Health & Industry, for the Maine Department of Agriculture, Food & Rural Resources. From1993 to 1996, Shelley was the Technical Assistance Director for the Community Development Block Grant Program, for the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development.
She received her Associates of Arts degree from Pine Manor College. Shelley is President of the Board of Directors for the Maine Society of Association Executives, and a member of the Maine Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, ASAE, the Food Industry Association Executives, the Food Marketing Institute, and the National Grocers Association.
