2015 FIAE CONVENTION A RESOUNDING SUCCESS Food Industry Executives Gather in Savannah for 88th Annua


Savannah, GA. - The 88th gathering of the Food Industry Association Executives convened from November 12-14, 2015, at the Hyatt Regency, Savannah. The convention themed, "Fresh Thinking for Food Execs, Y'all," was attended by most of the state food industry associations, as well as the leading manufacturer/supplier companies and representatives from national food related trade groups.

"This year's convention program addressed what our members have been asking for...specific education geared to growing the state-based association and education focused for the state association senior staff," said Ellie Taylor, Alabama Grocers Association, and Chairwoman of the 2015 Convention. "From the keynote presentations to the popular roundtable sessions, the state executives learned and shared best practices happening around the country."

The keynote address, "Are You Relevant in Today's World?" presented by Brian Riggs, from AMRMS, challenged the members to dialogue about outside and internal forces as well as the technology changes to take their states in the right direction and ready to take on the changing marketplace. Brian continued his presentation with the state executives during their roundtable session, and provided tools to use during strategic planning. Pat Davis from FMI and Greg Ferrara from NGA outlined what's on the horizon in a panel discussion on "Emerging Issues." Genna Gent from the American Beverage Association unveiled the MIXIFY campaign, and Lee Anderson from General Mills educated the group on the "Major Changes Ahead for U.S. Nutritional Guidance."

The so called "Nerdy Best Friend, " Beth Ziesenis, gave a rowdy presentation on the latest tech weapons for association executives. On Friday, 3.14 Communications founder Cassandra Walker Pye, led a great panel discussion on Creating A Communications Program. The panelists included Ron Fong, California Grocers Association, Brandon Scholz, Wisconsin Grocers Association and Kathy Siefken, Nebraska Grocery Industry Association. Cassandra also presented "Communicating in the Scandalous Age."

One of the highlights of the Convention is the Silent Auction benefiting the FIAE Professional Development Fund, which this year raised in excess of $6,000. The Grocery Manufacturers Association presented its annual GMA Excellence in Government Affairs Award to Shelley Doak, Executive Director of the Maine Grocers & Food Producers Association.

The FIAE Convention is known for its camaraderie and great networking opportunities for the state leaders and their national partners.

The dates and location for the 2016 Convention were announced. The 89th Annual Convention will convene at the Hyatt Lost Pines in Austin, Texas, November 14-16, 2016.
