How Can Farmers Help Boost Meat Case Profits?

Find Out with Free Educational Presentations - Available for your State Conferences!

A new Food Marketing Institute (FMI) 2016 meat case satisfaction study shows shoppers have very low satisfaction levels with the "Knowledge of meat department associates." And, the study concludes: "It's costing money, it's costing loyalty."

Farmers and veterinarians from across the country are ready to help. Their goal: Benefit food retailers and farmers by providing free, educational presentations for meat case managers and associates. This is a volunteer speakers program through the National Pork Board called Operation Main Street.

These experienced speakers can help power knowledge and profits at the meat case by sharing with store associates the latest in modern pig farming practices that include:

  • Antibiotic use in food animals

  • Animal well-being

  • Sustainable farming practices

For more than 10 years, these volunteers have been helping dietitians, chefs, culinary students, and more with the same kind of free educational support.

Here's how the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics state chapter president in Nebraska responded recently when scheduling an OMS speaker.

"It's amazing how much misinformation is out there! I think this would be a really interesting topic for our members."
