The grocery industry is continually responding to appeals from its customers and consumer groups to use packaging that is recyclable. Plastic film packaging (i.e. bread bags, overwraps around paper goods, drink bottles, diapers, feminine products, etc.) provides grocers significant economic, performance and sustainability benefits. However, plastic film packaging must be recycled at higher rates to meet consumer expectations and to continue providing these benefits to grocers. In addition, a number of states are considering Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation, which if enacted could cost grocers millions of dollars for packaging used for their private label brands.
Fortunately, today there’s a growing national program to boost plastic film packaging recycling by helping retailers, brand owners, and government agencies better educate and motivate consumers to recycle this packaging through return-to-retail collection – and it’s having a positive impact. It’s called the Wrap Recycling Action Program, or WRAP.
Through this webinar you’ll learn from the program expert and our newest FIAE affiliate member – the American Chemistry Council – about WRAP’s proven approaches, tools and resources to help grocers achieve their sustainability goals. Equally important, you will hear about the free, easy-to-use tools and resources for FIAE members that can help their members successfully expand existing plastic bag collection programs, generate revenue, and increase store foot traffic. WRAP also provides grocers with an effective voluntary alternative to EPR legislation, by increasing recycling of their plastic film packaging and improving sustainability.
The webinar will also include links to materials that your association can use to help promote the WRAP program to your members.
